Happy New Year 2024!

Happy New Year everyone. I’ve got a few observations as we head into this new year.

Christmas Deliveries

Usually, we hear each year about logistic delays and late deliveries during the pre-Christmas rush. This year, I didn’t hear anything about this. USPS, FedEx, UPS and Amazon seem to have solved the issues they had in previous years. I made an order from Amazon the morning of the 24th. I didn’t need it that day, but it was promised to arrive Christmas Eve with free delivery. It did.

Business

The business climate seems to generally be good. But, of course, not every company is experiencing good results. Some clients are facing existential threats and might not make it through 2024. Others aren’t doing as well as they might hope. But more are experiencing record sales and profits. Generally, the business environment seems good to me.

The restaurant my wife and I own just had its best sales month ever in December. Winter is a good time to sell pho, but we’re comfortably ahead of prior years. And we’re able to find good employees now.

Economy

The economy, a related but different issue than the business climate, also seems to be good. Inflation is down from last year, unemployment rates are at record lows, and borrowing rates are coming down, meaning capital expenditures should respond. Of course, it isn’t all sunshine and roses. We’ve got wars going on and a divisive election coming up. These things give me pause.

Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Taylor Swift, the one-woman force-of-nature and economic generator.

I hope 2024 is a good year for you, your business, and your family.
